fn-Software.Com

fn-Software.Com was started in November 2001, with one product: SystemVu. Boy, has it come a long way in 3 years. Sam Nelson and I met twenty-something years ago... both of us with a love of technology, computers and [soon for me] radios. At the time, I had a computer/software shop (SoftSys, Inc) and he had a Motorola radio shop (Kay Communications, Inc). We developed many software solutions over the years. I have moved on, but Sam still has that radio shop. Take a look here.

About 4 years ago, an existing customer of Kay Communications was having a tough time keeping track of his radio inventory. We were sitting around the BBQ pit and I mentioned that it sounded like a neat project. He already had a vendor in line to provide a bid on the software development work. One thing led to another and... well... SystemVu, and fn-Software.Com, was born.

As well as custom development of small to mid-size software solutions, we develop solutions for the radio/repeater industry, targeting Motorola ® and Kenwood ® repeaters, with Cimarron Technologies ® CPLUS decoders.

Sam Nelson - Owner - Kay Communications, Inc

I started in the 2-way radio business in 1971, when vacuum tubes were king, and real radios had motors!

Like Paul said; "Boy, have things changed!"

Today, lo these many years later, we’re installing IP cameras, wireless networks, broadband, analog and digital trunking systems... and the beat goes on.

Along the way, I became a Ham radio operator (WA5VDM), and was one of the first stations to experiment with "packet radio". That’s about the time I met Paul and began his introduction (corruption?) to radio. Paul had a computer business and I purchased a CP/M machine from him... Wow! That thing had 64k of ram and an internal 300 baud modem! Also, TWO floppy drives (I spared no expense), and ran at the speed of cold syrup. (I’m writing this bio on my new laptop, running at 2+ GHz and saving the file onto an 80 gig drive... woof!)

My company, Kay Communications, is a Motorola and Kenwood authorized dealer and service center, and we cater to the industrial customers along the Louisiana and Texas gulf coast.
